The summer slow-down and the stagnant inventories are adding up to pressure on retailers to move product. We’re seeing some very tempting prices in advertisements, but perhaps the most interesting was the email broadside I received yesterday from CompUSA.com. In case you haven’t been keeping score, Tiger Direct bought the Web domain when CompUSA went out of business and sold off its assets. As a result, you can generally find the same offers from Tiger as you do at CompUSA.com.
So yesterday’s email offered the Olevia 747i LCD TV for “under $1,000”, or $999.99. Not so long ago, this was an attractive price for a 42″ LCD TV, but this is the next size up at 47″. It’s also a full 1080p resolution, 1920 by 1080 pixels. It has both analog and digital tuners, two HDMI inputs, two sets of component video inputs, VGA connection for a computer, and detachable speakers if you want to use a home theater sound system instead.
At this price, I’d almost expect it to be a refurb model, but the offer clearly states that it is a new unit, and it comes with the standard Olevia factory warranty.
The catch on the offer was that it was available “24 hours only!” and “ends Tuesday at Midnight EST.” (EST stands for Eastern Standard Time, and we’re now on EDT, or Eastern Daylight-savings Time. Perhaps they meant to just say Eastern Time, but let’s not quibble over that for now.) The news is that the offer is still up on the CompUSA.com Web site, and the identical offer is also available on the Tiger Direct Web site as well.
Now, I don’t know how long this offer will actually be available, but if you’re interested you should probably check it out now.
