The Benefits of Directv Xtra

January 9, 2018 | Author: Abdul Majid

I know it’s hard to imagine for millennials, but there was a time in television history when there were only a handful of channels. If you didn’t like I Love Lucy or The Lone Ranger, you had to turn to radio for entertainment.

Of course in today’s world, there are more Directv television packages than there were channels back in the early days of the medium. The choice of channels to pick from is almost overwhelming. Any satellite television package you order will include dozens upon dozens of channels.

As such, deciding on a new satellite can be frustrating. It puts you in a position of balancing how much you want to spend and what shows/channels you actually enjoy. Those two factors don’t always meet in perfect congruity.

But there are in fact satellite television packages that give you an “extra” bang for your buck. One of those packages? The Directv Xtra package.

The Directv Xtra package is often cited as one of the better packages by subscribers. Why is that? Here are a few of the reasons.

The Channels

There are two concerns the overwhelming majority of people consider when looking for a new television package: the cost and the channels.

The Directv Xtra package does not have the most amount of channels, at least by Directv standards. That said, the total of Directv Xtra package channels amounts to more than 230.

Obviously, that’s a lot of channels to pick from. And even more obviously, many of these channels can be acquired through other packages. But the Xtra package does in fact include many channels that can’t be found in lower-priced packages. Directv Xtra package channels include:

  • Oxygen
  • Lifetime Movies
  • Golf Channel
  • NBA TV
  • LOGO
  • And more!

If you’re a sports fan, Xtra provides several sports channels that other packages will not include. Not only do subscribers get more golf and NBA basketball, they get FOX Sports 2, Sportsman Channel, and the NHL Network. More important, Xtra includes NFL Sunday Ticket at no extra cost.

It’s hard not to be excited about that.

But Xtra has more than just sports. If you’re passionate about music, Directv Xtra package channels include the likes of MTV Classic, Great American Country, BET Her, and 18 different Sonic Tap channels. Even if you aren’t a music aficionado, Directv Xtra could transform you into one in no time.

Price

As we said before, channel selection isn’t the only important consideration when purchasing a new satellite plan. Price of the package is a significant factor as well.

Xtra is not Directv’s cheapest plan, but it is also not the most expensive. Indeed, it falls almost squarely in the middle at $55 per month.

The package that precedes Directv Xtra–Directv Choice–runs at $45 per month, but has 45 fewer channels. So when you think about it, Xtra provides you a plethora of extra programming for only $1 per channel. That’s not a deal you could find with just about any other cable/satellite provider.

The price is even more cost-effective when you consider the inclusion of NFL Sunday Ticket. The NFL package ordinarily costs over $280 per season. With the Directv Xtra package, subscribers can get the 2018 season at no additional cost.

Additional Benefits

While channel selection and price are the most important considerations when exploring your satellite options, they aren’t the *only* considerations.

The Directv Xtra package includes many of the same goodies and benefits consistent with other Directv packages.

First off, there’s the Genie. Genie is Directv’s outstanding DVR technology. With the Genie, Directv Xtra subscribers can record and store up to an astounding 1000 hours of programming. Not only that, they can record up to five shows at once.

The Genie is incredibly beneficial if you’re frequently out of the house. If that is the case, Directv Everywhere is a must as well. Everywhere is Directv’s app that allows subscribers to enjoy recorded, on-demand, and even live television on their smartphone and/or tablet. Of course, Everywhere comes free for Xtra subscribers.

And then of course there is customer service. Even when a product/service is exceptional, bad customer relations can ruin a business. Directv, thankfully, was recently ranked as the best in customer service for the television provider industry by the American Customer Satisfaction Index.

People are much more inclined to stay with a company when that company treats them like humans, not dollar signs.

Conclusion

Directv offers a multitude of wonderful packages. No matter which one you order, you are getting the best in the business.

It is in our opinion, however, that the Directv Xtra package offers a little bit of “extra” value. The amount of Directv Xtra package channels is plentiful, all the while the price is affordable.

Directv Xtra is not only one of Directv’s best packages; it’s one of the best television packages on the market of any kind.
