We Have Our HDTVs! (Well, Almost Half)

December 1, 2009 | Author: Ibex Marketing

A new report by Leichtman Research Group indicates that nearly half of U.S. households have at least one HDTV. The 46% level of HDTV penetration is roughly double what it was two years ago. The fact that prices have fallen more than 20% a year for the past two years doesn’t hurt either.

According to the report, if the annual household income is more than $75,000 then the HDTV penetration rate increases to 61%. That’s hardly surprising, except maybe that it isn’t higher. I am a little surprised that nearly 30% of households with income under $30,000 also have at least one HDTV.

And according to the report, there are at least 14% of HDTV owners who think that they’re watching HD content even though they don’t have HD service. Hey, it used to be 25%, so I guess this is progress.
