You’re thinking about buying a new flat panel HDTV, and your budget is $600. So natuarally, you’re looking for a good price on a 32″ model. With luck, maybe you can stretch it to cover a 37″ set. Hold on a minute; you don’t have to wait for Black Friday for crazy prices. Look no further than your local Walmart. The store has a sale on the Vizio economy model VO420E ; released in June this year with a list price of $849, Walmart is selling it for $598. (Vizio has a special offer for the same model on its Web site for $750 with free shipping.)
This is not one of Vizio’s top-of-the-line models, but it’s a 42″ 1080p LCD HDTV with SRS Labs’ TruSurround sound and Vizio’s EchoHD that gives the set better energy efficiency than the Energy Star 3.0 standards. And you can get it for about half of what a similar set would have cost a year or two ago. I have not tested this model, so I can’t speak to its image quality, but at this price it might be worth a trip to the store to see how it looks to you.
