Systemax -- the company behind Tiger Direct -- bought the CompUSA.com Web site and a couple of the CompUSA stores in Florida when that company closed last year. Now Systemax is in line to take over the Circuit City Web domain and some other assets, which would increase the company's dominant position as an online consumer electronics retailer. The deal calls for Systemax to pay $6.5 million, plus a percentage...

April 14, 2009 | Author: Ibex Marketing
InFocus announced yesterday that it will be purchased by Image Holdings Corporation in a cash deal for $0.95 a share, or about $39 million. That's about half the share price from a year ago, and about one-tenth of the company's five year high price. Still, it is good news as it means that InFocus is more likely to survive and see another day. The company has been one of the...

Digeo announced a range of new services today that could tip the scales in the Moxi's favor. Perhaps the most intriguing...

Backyard Movie Theater?

Friend and colleague Peter Putman (of www.hdtvexpert.com) is renowned for his HDTV SuperBowl parties, where he fills his house with displays so you won't miss a second of the game as you move from room to room. One of my favorite tricks of his is to hang a bed sheet outside over a picture window, and then use a video projector behind it; it feels as though the game is...

Really High-Def Cinemas

April 7, 2009 | Author: Ibex Marketing
There's an entertainment arms race that's been underway just about as long as there has been television. The challenge has been for the movies to offer a better experience than you can get in your living room, in order to entice you to part with your cash in order to watch a movie at your local cinema. Color gave movies an advantage for a while, and then it was multitrack...

What is the “Best” Flat Panel TV?

April 3, 2009 | Author: Ibex Marketing
I received an offer to do some cross-promotion with a site call Wize. According to the email, the company "aggregates and analyzes millions of reviews from around the web to determine the best products for specific uses / intentions." It's an interesting site, but I am not sure that its source information is capable of providing the conclusions that they offer. In short, I don't believe that this service can...
