HP’s Touch TV PC

It’s not too soon to start thinking about what your favorite high school grad may need for college next fall, and HP announced a new computer today that has some attractive features. The new HP TouchSmart IQ506 PC is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and has a 22″ widescreen HD LCD display. It includes a Web cam, microphone, media card reader, built-in speakers, and both wired and wireless network connections. It has a slot-loading DVD burner and a 500 GB hard drive. All this is built into the monitor, to create a compact, space-saving package. The wireless keyboard and mouse eliminate wire clutter. It also has a cool feature; it has a touch screen so you can just tap the screen to interact with many of the programs.

The HP TouchSmart IQ506 PC is a touch-screen personal computer that also includes a TV tuner.

But here’s the best part of all; the IQ506 also includes a dual NTSC/ATSC tuner, so you can get free broadcast television just by attaching a set of rabbit ears. So it’s a television and a personal computer, all rolled up in one efficient package. You can watch standard DVDs on it, or stream standard and HD content from the Internet, or get television over the air. It is scheduled to ship in July for a list price starting at $1,499. What more could a college dorm room need?
