It can be argued that 2006 was the Year of the HDTV, as a result of the booming sales. If so, then perhaps 2007 will go down as the Year of the Green HDTV. No, this is not about color balance; it’s all about the environment.
The media has given lots of attention to global warming and other environmental issues, and the public appears to be paying attention and growing increasingly concerned about such issues. Just look at the success of the Toyota Prius and other hybrids as an indicator of how this shift has affected the automobile market. So expect that retailers and manufacturers are going to hit the environmental issues hard in their HDTV marketing this year.
Here’s another data point; Crutchfield is partnering with the Consumer Electronics Association to use their myGreenElectronics data to educate shoppers about recycling opportunities for their used electronics equipment. Crutchfield has added a page to their Web site where consumers can find local recycling centers, which relies on the CEA’s database.
